Ya’axché is the Mopan Maya word for the Cieba pentandra tree. It is sacred to the Maya people. In the Maya cosmovision it connects the underworld with its deep buttress roots to the heavens with its branches.

Ya’axché focuses its work within a 770,000 acre area called the Maya Golden Landscape.

Ya’axché is a Belizean, community oriented, non-governmental organization (NGO) that works to find harmony between nature and human development for the benefit of both.

Ya’axché is a Belizean organization which aims to maintain a healthy environment with empowered communities through sustainable livelihoods, protected area management, biodiversity conservation and environmental education utilizing innovative approaches within the Maya Golden Landscape.

As part of Ya’axché’s goal towards financial sustainability, Ya’axché decided to develop sustainable financing initiatives to raise funds for its important work. EcoTourism Belize is one of them. EcoTourism Belize is connecting nature, wildlife and communities for a more sustainable world. EcoTourism Belize provides transformative experiences to foreign and local visitors who want to enjoy Belize.

Ya’axché would love to work in all of Belize but with the resources available, Ya’axché believes in doing great work in a specific area based on resources and in doing so, it does not spread its self too thin.
