Enforcement and Compliance Ranger

Ya’axché is looking for an Enforcement and Compliance Ranger for the daily implementation of enforcement and compliance activities within Ya’axché managed protected areas. Rangers are expected to efficiently and effectively carry out patrols for the proper management of the natural resources under their protection. In addition, rangers must act in a professional manner and uphold Belize’s laws, rules and regulations of protected areas.

Specific tasks
  • Ensure that all duties are carried out according to Ya’axché Ranger Protocol
  • Collect patrol information using the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool
  • Write reports as indicated by supervisor
  • Advise Team Leader on location, scheduling and urgency of reconnaissance and joint patrols
  • Maintain adequate personal field equipment for duties
  • Maintenance of Field Station and Bladen Ranger Base facility during shift, and technical equipment and reporting of any structural or technical faults
  • Be responsible for problem solving of minor incidents, and reporting major unsolvable incidents
  • Carry out activities related to biodiversity monitoring, Ya’axché Institute for Conservation Education and any other organizational activity when needed and that requires ranger time
  • Represent Ya’axché at community forums and events that are essential for protected areas management
  • Other tasks that may arise from time to time at Ya’axché

Required qualifications and skills
  • At least 2 years of experience as ranger or equivalent job (BDF, Police, Forestry)
  • Experience in team work is essential
  • Basic office computer skills (Email, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word)
  • Excellent driving skills (valid license; 4WD an advantage
  • Excellent health condition
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Spanish and Q’eqchi’ an advantage
  • Preferably from the communities in the Toledo District
